My desk was set to the highest position possible, but it was not enough to stand up fully without having to hunch down a bit. So I solved the issue with a stool.
Stools are great in terms since you can find the perfect position for your body without having to do anything with the desk.
The only downside with a stool compared to a full standing desk setup is that you’ll become sore!
The stools are in most cases super hard to sit on and not really comfortable for extended periods of time.
It forces you to stand up more which is great, but if you’re not used to standing then you’ll become tired in your legs and your body quite fast.
There are of course different types of adjustable chairs and stools such as:
- Drafting stools which feature foot rings
- Saddle seats that mimic riding a horse
- Kneeling chairs designed to promote better posture
- Bar stools with backrests for extra support
If you go this route, it’s important to consider how much time you plan on spending sitting in it each day as well as what type of activities you will be doing while seated (typing vs reading).

Bun Feet and Furniture Risers
Bun feet and furniture risers are an easy way to raise your existing table legs so that you can work comfortably standing, without having to invest in new furniture.

There are several types of bun feet to adjust your table height and can be picked up in your hardware store. These extenders include:

The downside with these furniture legs is that you almost “permanently” lock in the height position of whatever you’re raising, and it will not be fun to adjust it on the fly.

What to do if your desk is too low?
