Working from home has its perks, but it also comes with a unique set of challenges, like how to raise a desk.
It can be a challenge to find the right height and ergonomic setup for your workspace that allows you to be comfortable and productive without slouching.
Whether you’re looking into height adjustable desks, desk converters, or just simple table feet for an easy solution; there are plenty of ways to raise your desk.
Let’s explore some tips on how to make your desk taller so you can enjoy working from home without any struggles or repetitive stress injuries.
Height Adjustable Standing Desks

Standing desks are awesome for those who work from home, as they offer a range of health benefits and can help to improve posture and productivity.
Desk legs that can go up and down on demand can help with reducing neck and back pain caused by long periods of sitting in an uncomfortable position.
The human body likes to move around, and using the exact same sitting position for 8 hours is not what we’re made for, especially if your back is not in a natural bend.
It’s no wonder that we feel stiff all over the place.
Additionally, standing while working can help with increasing blood flow throughout the body as we move around and adjust our stance. It will just feel better overall.
You’ll just feel more productive while standing up. I don’t know what it is exactly, but it works!
There are several types of wooden tables on the market today with different sizes. My favorite is the electrically powered models with memory settings, so you don’t have to adjust it manually every time you stand up or sit down.
I personally jumped the gun and invested in both a standing desk and a nice chair for when I want to sit down, which cost me around $1k in total but it was worth every penny.
I just love my minimalist desk setup and look forward to working every single day in my own personal space made just how I want it. 😌
Keynotes
Standing desks offer many benefits such as improved posture and increased productivity. They come in a variety of types, from manual crank to electric powered models with memory settings.
Desk Converters

Desk converters are an easy way to convert your current desk into a standing desk and add extra height, without having to buy a whole new piece of furniture.
These desk risers are more affordable than traditional desks, and they can be easily adjusted to fit any height.
These desk extensions don’t take up as much room in your home office or workspace and they sit straight on the current height of the desk.
Additionally, many models come with features like adjustable keyboard trays and that make it easier to work transition into a standing stance.
Some popular adjustable sets include:
- Gas spring lift systems
- Electric sit-stand desk converters
- Manual crank systems
The only downside is that some desk converters can look bulky and quite frankly, ugly as well haha.
But it’s a quick and great alternative if you really don’t want to invest in a brand new desk setup.
Keynotes
Desk converters offer a convenient and affordable way to convert your existing desk into a standing one with space-saving design, and added features like keyboard trays.
Height Adjustable Office Chairs or Stools

A height adjustable ergonomic chair or even a stool is a great way to get comfortable while working from home, and this is how I rolled for the first year of the pandemic.
My desk was set to the highest position possible, but it was not enough to stand up fully without having to hunch down a bit. So I solved the issue with a stool.
Stools are great in terms since you can find the perfect position for your body without having to do anything with the desk.
The only downside with a stool compared to a full standing desk setup is that you’ll become sore!
The stools are in most cases super hard to sit on and not really comfortable for extended periods of time.
It forces you to stand up more which is great, but if you’re not used to standing then you’ll become tired in your legs and your body quite fast.
There are of course different types of adjustable chairs and stools such as:
- Drafting stools which feature foot rings
- Saddle seats that mimic riding a horse
- Kneeling chairs designed to promote better posture
- Bar stools with backrests for extra support
If you go this route, it’s important to consider how much time you plan on spending sitting in it each day as well as what type of activities you will be doing while seated (typing vs reading).
Keynotes
An adjustable office chair or stool can provide ergonomic benefits and improved productivity when working from home. Consider factors such as type, size, and additional features to find the perfect fit for your needs.
Bun Feet and Furniture Risers

Bun feet and furniture risers are an easy way to raise your existing table legs so that you can work comfortably standing, without having to invest in new furniture.
Additionally, these desk leg risers are cost-effective solutions that don’t require any major changes to existing furniture.
There are several types of bun feet to adjust your table height and can be picked up in your hardware store. These extenders include:
- Plastic stackable risers with adjustable heights
- Metal bed lifts with locking mechanisms
- Wood pieces for raising stuff
The downside with these furniture legs is that you almost “permanently” lock in the height position of whatever you’re raising, and it will not be fun to adjust it on the fly.
But these DIY wooden extensions work in a pinch or if you just need a temporary solution fast.
Keynotes
Bun feet and furniture risers are an easy, cost-effective way to temporarily raise existing furniture for an improved posture.

What to do if your desk is too low?
If your desk is too low, there are a few solutions you can try.
Firstly, adjust the height of your chair to compensate for the lower desk height.
You may also consider adding a footrest or cushion to raise your feet off the ground and provide extra support.
You could invest in an adjustable standing desk converter that allows you to switch between sitting and standing positions as needed.
If none of these options work for you, look into purchasing a new desk that better fits your needs.
⸻
Is it better to have your desk higher or lower?
It’s generally recommended to have your desk at a height that allows you to keep your elbows close to the body and wrists in a neutral position.
A higher desk can be beneficial for those who are taller, as it will help them maintain good posture while working.
It is important to adjust the height of your desk so that it suits your individual needs and helps promote good posture when sitting down for long periods of time.
